The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.

The organization did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
